Reviewing
Notes and drawings, ranges that loop, replies, the review's status and the playback settings.
Notes and drawings #
Every note sits on a frame, and a drawing on the picture shows exactly what it means. The tools sit under the picture.
- Pause on the frame and pick a tool: Pen, Box, Circle, Arrow or Text.
- Draw on the picture. The colour button beside the tools picks the ink, and while the pen is on, a size slider shows above the Pen button.
- Made a mistake? Undo takes back the last mark, and Clear removes them all.
- Type the note and click Add note at this frame.
- In the notes list, click a note to go to its frame with its drawing on the picture.
Finding notes
- Search notes or #tags - Type a word, or a #tag written in a note's text, to show only the notes that have it.
- The sort menu, which reads Time to start - Sort by time, author or status.
- Unresolved - Hides the notes already marked Addressed or Won't fix.
- Name chips - Once other people have left notes on this version, click a name to hide or show theirs.
The review's owner can mark other people's notes Open, Addressed or Won't fix as they work through them.
Your notes save to the review's folder as you add them. There is no save button.
Ranges and loops #
A note can cover a stretch of time as well as a moment, and a range plays round in a loop while you look at it.
- Every note sits in the lane just above the scrub bar: a dot for a moment, a bar for a range.
- Drag sideways from one of your dots to stretch it into a range.
- Drag either end of your bar to move that end. A tip above the lane shows the in and out.
- Select a range note and Loop lights up beside the gear. Press play and the range plays round. Click Loop to stop.
While you write
As you type a note, a dashed dot rides the playhead. Drag sideways from it, or along an empty stretch of the lane, to make the note a range before you add it. Add note on this range then saves it, and Remove range turns it back into a moment.
A range never moves as a whole, so drag its ends.
Replies and @mentions #
Answer a note where it is, and bring someone in by name.
- Hover a note and click Reply.
- Type your answer and click Add reply. It sits under the note it answers.
- To bring someone into a note, type @ and the start of their name, then pick them from the list. In a reply, type their whole @Name.
A reply or an @mention of someone puts the review in their Needs you list. More in Needs you and pop-ups.
Status and Final #
The badge beside the version shows where the review stands, and everyone in the library sees the same one.
- Click the status badge in the review's header.
- Pick Awaiting review, In review, Changes requested or Approved.
Awaiting review greys out once anyone has left a note on the version.
FinalTeam
An admin can mark a review Final from the same menu. It asks first, then the review is approved and the badge reads Final: only an admin can add a version or change its status from then on. Choosing another status unlocks it. Admins are set up under Admin tools.
A reviewer outside the library can approve or ask for changes in their own copy, and their answer sets the status when you bring their notes back. A returned Changes requested shows on that version whatever the badge is set to, until that reviewer sends a new answer.
Speed, gamma and quality #
The gear under the picture holds the playback settings.
- Click the gear under the picture.
- Speed plays at 75%, 50%, 25% or 10%.
- Gamma lifts the shadows, for a dark shot or a shared screen.
- Quality switches between the copies the video was saved in: Fast, Normal and Quality.
Speed and gamma last for the review you're on. While either is set, a chip beside the gear shows it, and clicking the chip puts it back. Gamma never changes your notes, the PDF or what you send.
