# Versions - ReviewDeck docs

> A review holds every version of the work. Each version keeps its own notes, and you can compare any two.

ReviewDeck 0.3.1. Checked 21 October 2026. https://reviewdeck.app/docs/versions

## Add a version

A new cut goes on the same review as the next version, so its notes stay beside the old ones.

Clip: https://reviewdeck.app/docs/clips/versions/add-a-version.mp4

1. (0:00) Open the review and click **Add version** in its header.
2. (0:02) Pick the new file. It imports as the next version, v2, v3 and on.
3. (0:10) Switch versions from the menu beside the title. Each version keeps its own notes.

### Other ways in

- **Drop it on the review** - Drag the file onto an open review and it asks to add it as the next version.
- **Drop it on the project** - Adding a file with the same name as a review asks whether to make it that review's next version, keep both, or skip it.

A new version sets the status back to **Awaiting review**, and everyone else who has opened the review sees it in their **Needs you** list.

## Compare two versions (Team)

Look at two versions of a video or image side by side, or one over the other, on one clock.

Clip: https://reviewdeck.app/docs/clips/versions/compare-two-versions.mp4

1. (0:00) Open the review and click **Compare** in its header.
2. (0:02) Pick the version to compare with from the chips. The bar starts with the version on screen, as in **v3 with**.
3. (0:05) Pick how to look: **Flip**, **Wipe**, **Side by side** or **Blend**.
4. (0:24) Play or scrub as usual. Both versions follow the same playhead.

### The four ways

- **Flip** - One version at a time. Click **Flip** again to see the other in its place, and once more to come back.
- **Wipe** - A line you drag across the picture, upright or across.
- **Side by side** - Both pictures, the same frame.
- **Blend** - The other version over this one, as see-through as you set it.

If the new cut changed length, the offset buttons move the other version a frame at a time to line a moment up. **Swap** makes the other version the one on screen, and **Close** stops comparing. Notes stay on the version on screen.

> **Good to know** A 3D review has its own Compare in the viewer: the other version shows as a see-through ghost over this one, and it comes with the free app.
