# Sending work out - ReviewDeck docs

> A client or a freelancer outside the library gets one file that opens in their browser. Their notes come back as a file, and ReviewDeck puts them on the right review.

ReviewDeck 0.3.1. Checked 21 October 2026. https://reviewdeck.app/docs/sending-work-out

## Send outside the library

A copy of the review in one `.rdeck` file, with everything the reviewer needs to watch it and leave notes.

1. (0:00) Open the review, click **Export** and choose **Send outside the library…** To send several reviews in one file, select them in the library and click **Export** there.
2. (0:03) Check **Your name**, so the reviewer knows who to send it back to.
3. (0:06) If the video has more than one copy, tick the ones to include under **Video quality & size**. The reviewer's player picks the best one for their device.
4. (0:09) Click **Send** and save the file.
5. (0:15) Click **Copy** to copy the covering note it gives you.
6. (0:17) Attach the .rdeck file to a message to your reviewer, in your chat app or email.
7. (0:24) Write a line of your own, paste the covering note under it and send it.

**Include my notes** sends your notes on this version as context, so the reviewer sees what's already been said. Other people's notes stay out unless you tick them in. With a Team or Studio licence, **For (optional)** keeps who each send went to. Colleagues who already have the library don't need a copy: [Copy link](/docs/working-as-a-team#copy-link) points them at the review.

> **Good to know** Under **More options**, **Web page (experimental)** makes a page that opens in a desktop browser with no portal, for one reviewer on a computer. It is one file up to the size set in Settings, under **Video & sending** (200 MB to start), and a .zip above it. It doesn't work on phones or carry 3D, and it takes a password only when it holds one review.

## What your reviewer sees

Nobody needs an account or the app. The file opens in the browser, phones included, and nothing uploads. A reviewer with the free ReviewDeck app can open it there instead.

1. (0:00) They save the .rdeck file from your message, to their Downloads for example.
2. (0:03) They open it. In a browser they go to [portal.reviewdeck.app](https://portal.reviewdeck.app), on a phone or a computer, and drop the file on the page or choose it with the button. With the free ReviewDeck app they double-click the file.
3. (0:16) They watch, leave notes and draw, as in your app. In the browser they type their name first.
4. (0:32) When they're done they click **Send feedback** (**Return feedback** in the app) and save the file it makes, marking it **Approve** or **Request changes** on the way if they like.
5. (0:40) They attach that file to a reply and send it back to you.

In the browser, **Download the file** saves it; on a phone, **Share…** sends it straight into a chat or an email. **Copy as text** gives the notes as text to paste, with the drawings as a block at the end while **Include drawings** stays ticked. The browser doesn't offer it for a file that holds several reviews. The free app is at [reviewdeck.app](https://reviewdeck.app), and the page for reviewers is [reviewdeck.app/open](/open).

## Bring their notes back

Their notes land on the review they belong to, in their own colour, marked as from outside the library.

1. (0:00) Save the feedback file from their reply, to your Downloads for example.
2. (0:03) Click **Import feedback** in the library's header.
3. (0:07) Choose that file under **From a file**. ReviewDeck files every note, drawings included, on the right review and version, and says how many. If they pasted their notes as text, use **Paste text** instead.

A reviewer's approval or request for changes sets the review's status as it comes in. Bringing the same file in twice adds nothing twice.

## Passwords

A password on a send is real encryption, AES-256-GCM, not a hidden gate.

- **Set it** - Type it under **Password (optional)** in the Send window.
- **Share it** - Send it to the reviewer by a different route from the file: a message, a call.
- **Lost it** - It can't be recovered, by you or anyone. Send a new copy.

The reviewer types the password when the file opens. A Web page send with a password leaves your notes out, because a web page can't keep them behind the password.
